Fieldwork at Danilo

From August 24th to September 4th field research was conducted in Danilo, within a trench located next to the church of st. Daniel within Danilo’s cemetery.

Excavations revealed the earliest phases of the Roman building occupying this area in antiquity, and in all likelihood dated to the 1st c. BCE, allowing us to understand the subsequent changes to the architecture and several nuances in the ways in which the area was transformed into a late antique cemetery. In parallel, anthropological analyses were carried out.

Team members of Re:Set project had also the chance to follow the work in another trench being dug in Danilo by the Šibenik Town Museum. Results of these excavations will be further analyzed during the post-excavation phases of our research, and will be integrated within the project’s GIS.
